Mindfulness is a practice and an attitude of noticing.
Being mindful is bringing the fullness of mind to this moment. This practice is incredibly beneficial – not in some abstract spiritual way, but enhancing your wellbeing in concrete, everyday aspects.
The first object to consider in this practice is yourself. Ask yourself these questions: “How am I doing this very moment? What is going on for me? Am I feeling in balance? What am I thinking, feeling, believing right now, and how do I act in accordance with that mindset?”
I notice that when I start my day believing tiring thoughts, it makes me act tired. Tiredness settles on my shoulders and back. When I notice this then I have a choice. I can ask myself: “What I am thinking and believing that is so tiring – Is it even true?”
When I start with checking in with myself in that way, and take care of my internal environment I become open to the beauty that is all around me. I feel in harmony with the world, part of it, balanced within and without.
In that way I can have a positive impact in my life and at my workplace.
Everyday – and especially right now, before Christmas, getting ready for the holidays, a thousand details seem to require our attention.
Do you wake up with a list in your head?
Not wanting to even face your day until your first shot of caffeine has caught your body up with the mental energy of “too much to do?”
In that space we are unable to connect to others, to care much, to spend time with them, or even spend time with ourselves. Work imbibes a quality of ‘need to be done’ so that I can move on – to the next, and the next.
Check in – Are you joyous when half the world proposes to celebrate happy holidays?
Are you feeling in balance?
Where is your mind?
Simply notice.
By creating space in your life to value YOU/SELF – as apparent in your mind’s status – you allow a life of quality to emerge.
Slow down your morning and make your choice about your day. This will not even take time, I promise – it will give you extra time.
Bring the fulness of mind to thought, emotion, body, environment. In the presence of your being you cannot but be joyful.
Joy arises naturally in this practice.
On your way to work you will notice the beauty of early morning life. At work you will be able to connect with your colleagues on a fresh, appreciative level. Your work will be of higher quality as you pay mind to it. Knowing this you will be able to appreciate it more.
You will be able to appreciate yourself more.
You will be stepping out of the vicious and self fulfilling cycle of life being too much, too fast! – into a delightful cycle of perfect, right now, as I notice – again and again.
Just notice.
Life is beautiful.
